Thursday – Leanna

Hi I am Leanna, the newest employee at Polyface. Here are a few questions/answers to get to know me a little. I am thrilled to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all!

1. What inspires you?

Sunny days, progress on projects, smiling faces, and talking with customers.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would love to still be farming and practicing my homemaking skills. We will see where God leads me on this wonderful journey of life!

3. What is one of your most fulfilling hobbies?

I don’t think I can pick just one. Depending on what mood that I am in, weaving, knitting, cooking/baking, sewing, or spinning.

4. What do you like to cook/favorite foods?

I love to cook just about anything. A year ago I discovered Pioneer Woman and have been trying out a lot of her recipes. So far they have all been delicious! Does chocolate count as a food? 🙂

5. What relaxes you after a long day of farming?

This past summer it was a shower and then my bed! Now during the winter months I usually read, cook/bake, or spin.

6. How do you deal with farm animal deaths?

Growing up, I always had a hard time with my pet rabbits dying, but as I grew older I came to understand that because of sin, death is a natural cycle.

7. Who do you hope to share farming skills with?

Anyone who wants to learn!

8. What do you like to read?

Mostly how to farm kind of books. I haven’t been reading a lot in the last couple years, but I always enjoy reading old republished books from Lamplighter Publishing.

9. What is your greatest asset?

I think that one of my greatest assets is my relationship with Jesus Christ and the work ethic that my parents instilled in me.

Clean Up

This time of year always seems to sneak up on me.  Some days I feel like summer is never going to end and I will forever and always have piles of picked vegetables staring up at me, waiting to be preserved.  Then it happens.  I wake up one morning and the air is crisp and … Read the Rest

A Cozy Day

It is the perfect day here at Polyface for a pot of soup on the stove!  I love the snow and the signs that promise spring is on the way!

Not To Cold For…

Last week we had dinner at a friend’s house and we brought dessert. 🙂  Even though it had snowed that day I couldn’t resist making something cold and sweet!  With all the maple syrup we have been boiling down, this recipe was on my mind.  Maple pecan ice cream is simply delicious!  Enjoy! Maple Pecan … Read the Rest

Up It Goes!

You know those lists you make of things to get done?  Well, here at Polyface lists are very important to help keep us on track and to keep things rolling.  At the beginning of the year “the big list” is made of all the things we would like to see accomplished and things that have … Read the Rest

Sugaring Time!?

I wouldn’t have thought with the start we had to winter, 5 inches of snow the day before Thanksgiving, that by the middle of January we would be setting buckets out and preparing for another season of sugaring!  But that is exactly what is happening around here.  The weather forecast looks just about perfect, so … Read the Rest

With the temperatures getting colder around here and with having a little more time on my hands after the holidays, I found my self this week sitting on my floor and  pinning patches onto some of my husbands pants. I started out with 4 pairs of pants that were in need of a lot of … Read the Rest

A Year in Review

We had a great 2014!  Both Polyface and Eric and I as a couple. 🙂  Looking  back we learned a lot, worked a lot, and had some wonderful times with friends and family.  I was looking back through pictures and put together the collage below.  It doesn’t show all of what we did, but it … Read the Rest

A Week in Review

This past week has been full of a couple “firsts.”  Here they are! I picked my first green beans out of my “little” garden.  32 pounds of green beans in two pickings. 🙂 32 pounds = 28 quarts of beans.  Just about takes care of the husband and I for winter! Of course I had … Read the Rest

Little Things

It is amazing how a little project can change how things look.  I had fun a few weeks ago making a little flower and herb bed off of our deck.  Since our housing was only built a little over a year ago, not a whole lot has been done outside yet.  So I decided to … Read the Rest
