One year ago we were in the throes of moving from the west coast to Virginia. Our dream of farming became a reality and we left the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for the quiet and wide expanses of the Shenandoah Valley. Neither myself or my husband had any background in farming so there were a lot of “what if” questions bouncing around our home. We received our first animals in April and thus began the gradual process of learning and doing. People often ask me what it is like to be a farmer’s wife and I confess I feel silly answering that question. Chiefly because we are so new at this gig that I don’t feel like I can claim any absolutes. And yet, we are here. We are taking our best shot at our dream. We are farming.
A few years ago I would have never imagined that I would be living in a farmhouse, planning a spring garden and teaching my girls about the difference between broilers and layers. As you look ahead at 2015 I hope that you have opportunities to choose the challenging, different, and entirely unknown. You never know where it will take you!
Blessings in the New Year!
