A new year has begun. So many of us think of New Years as a time for change, a chance to do something that will somehow make us a better person in our own eyes or in the eyes of others. Many resolutions will be made for 2015. It saddens me that in 350 or so more days most of us will be beating ourselves up about which resolutions we failed to accomplish and find ourselves making the same resolutions on the eve of 2016 because we are once again unhappy with something about our selves. My friend Jennifer Miller introduced me to the practice of having a Bible verse and a word to concentrate on for the year, rather than one resolution.
My verse: “I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”–Philippians 3:13
I’m sure I have missed out on joy and blessings by not living in the present. I aim to not dwell on past mistakes, past pains and past sadness, but rather enjoy the moment and what God has in store for my future.
My word: Determined
To be more Christ-like
To “be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry”
To say “yes” to my children more
To pray more
To praise more
To make healthy decisions
I am determined to be the me God desires.
I look forward to this new year. January offers a clean slate, a fresh start. I look forward to the joy and blessings in 2015.

Those are just a few wonderful moments of 2014. So many to choose from and for that I am blessed.
