Quilt on the Horizon

It’s the time of year when the weather begins shifting to fall and my love of quilting kicks in. This year I promised to make a quilt for my mom.
So in September, we went shopping for fabrics and she settled on these absolutely beautiful prints called Horizon by Kate Spain. I’m in love.

Then we settled on a pattern and I’m excited to begin this new project.
If any of you are interested in joining in. The pattern is called Swoon by Camille Roskelley and can be found here.

The fabrics we are using can be found here, although we purchased ours from our local quilt store here in Staunton, Virginia.

My girlfriend, Kristen has also decided to make this quilt and crazy as it may sound, she has decided to use the exact same fabric line!

Ipod Pics 063We’re just going to be using a few different prints. I’m can’t wait to see how they turn out. I’m guessing that even though we’re using the same fabric lines and the same pattern, our quilts are going to be very different.

Swoon for Mom
My Mom is going to have to make me hand this quilt over to her when it’s done and it’s probably going to take all kinds of will-power for me to do it…but I’ll say it again.

This is my Mom’s quilt. I’m making it for her. She even bought the fabrics. Continue to repeat mantra until convinced. Ha!

Okay, one more thing to mention to all of you quilters out there.

Have you ever done a mystery quilt along?

Well, I watched this one being done last year, but at the time I found out about it after it had already started so I didn’t join in.

downtonabbeyHowever, Love Bug Studios is hosting another Mystery Quilt Along and this time, I’m in! It starts on January 4 and ends the first of March. Perfect winter timing! You can check out all the great information about it here.

I’ll admit that I don’t know much about the Downton Abbey TV series (we don’t have TV) so I’m not using the specific fabrics that are suggested. Instead, I’ve chosen my own by matching the the color shades. Hopefully it will work out.

Well today and tomorrow is our big Turkey pick up days so I’m off to help!

Happy Friday!!

I can’t wait to see this quilt!! I am on prohibition from starting ANY new quilting projects until I work through the TWO laundry baskets full of UFOs that are haunting me. But, the sooner I get them done, the sooner I can start something new!
