One Peachy Day :)

[Disclaimer: So sorry that  my post is on a similar topic to this past Sunday’s post! I wrote this before Sunday’s was published, so I hope y’all don’t mind a double helping of peaches! 😉 ]

After being at Polyface over a year now, I’ve come to better experience – and enjoy! – eating produce in season. And, to my great delight, it’s peach season here in the Shenandoah Valley!! Every year, the Salatin’s head out to Showalter Orchard and get bushels and bushels of peaches. If you like ’em fresh, like me, they’re not around for long! Peaches for breakfast, peaches for lunch, peaches for dessert! Lots of the peaches get canned and, in turn, we thankfully get eat them all winter long! But, I still think there is something extra special about enjoying a fresh, fuzzy peach on a summer day 🙂

This year I got a bushel myself. And, although I would be more than happy to eat each of them fresh, I was realizing that I still couldn’t keep up! So, last week, Sheri and I hit the kitchen to make a very tasty treat…. peach jam! The majority of our jam was made using the Sure-Jell Reduced Sugar recipe. Here are some pictures…

mm, mm, mmmm

It’s also notable that we made three peach cobblers that same day for dinner’s dessert!.. I was just too busy drooling over them to get a picture snapped…

Aside from jam, I’m planning on making peach crisp and then freezing some too! What are you enjoying eating and/or canning this season?

Oh enjoy some for us! A late spring freeze wiped out all of our local peaches. We’re putting up other things from the garden, but it’s a little sad to think about no jars of peaches for winter! I guess they will just taste even better next summer, as the Lord allows.

  4. Wow! Looking great. I also like peaches.
