Greeting from the Cows at Polyface

Two of our interns, Kristen Kilfoyle and Greer Burton took this video and I thought I’d share it with you today. 🙂

Grass Grazers from Greer Burton on Vimeo.

Every day, the cows are moved to fresh pasture. This is a beautiful short clip of how easy this is to accomplish. They are ready at the same time every afternoon. This video was taken at our newest rental farm. We’re excited to see how the land is going to respond over the next couple of seasons.

Oh and just for fun…Look at what I saw on our little dirt road on Monday!

I actually ended up following him/her for a little while until he climbed a tree and hopped the fence. We’ve been seeing more and more bears lately, not sure why, but I still think the sighting of them is special. 🙂

Happy Friday!

Can you tell me how you handle water for them when rotating?

    • Sheri Salatin says:

      Hi Jillian,
Great question, we have a water line that we bury along the edge of the permanent fencing. About every hundred feet or so, it has a spot with a hook up for a water hose. We run that to the cows in a water trough. Fresh water at all time is definitely key. 🙂 Perhaps I can get some pictures for you for another blog post.

Headed out to move the cows now – only 6 of them but it is still so funny when they get on a new patch. They are so excited kicking and running around. We are expecting our first calves in the next month. I am an excited and nervous!
