Hurricanes and Polka Dots

I lived in Newport News, VA when I was in college and my roommates and I literally swam down our street one time after a hurricane! I wish I had pictures to prove this, but you’ll just have to believe me on this one. It was definitely fun, but that’s because we didn’t have anywhere to be and it meant that classes were cancelled. This past weekend was different. The only thing we had to show for Hurricane Irene was a gusty, cloudy, slightly rainy Saturday and an absolutely beautiful Sunday. And for this I’m thankful. It’s weekends like this that make me SO glad to live in the mountains now. I fall in love with the mountains more and more the longer I live here.

Something else that I’m beginning to fall in love with is the color red (nice transition, I know). Red polka dots to be exact. So when Buddy and I went to a fabric store this weekend (my idea, not his), I fell in love with one fabric in particular. That’s right, bright red polka dots made by Moda Fabrics (they have the most beautiful prints!). So, of course I bought it. I’d been wanting to make curtains for the kitchen windows, and I thought this would be just perfect. Amidst my excitement, I was a bit hesitant because while I might wear polka dots, I’ve never been one to decorate with polka dots. Despite my hesitations, the curtains turned out quite well, albeit a bit crooked… but hey, it adds character, right?!

So here’s to polka dot curtains and living in the mountains!

I added an eyelet trim to soften it up and I love the way it turned out!

Happy Monday,

    cute curtains!

  2. Love the polka dots! 😀 Now I’m going to have to hunt through our local fabric store and see if I can find something similar… I think the eyelet goes perfectly on it. 🙂

Glad to hear y’all stayed safe during the hurricane!
