Good friendly neighbors!

Local neighbors stop over to help out!

You know you’re in Virginia when your very sweet neighbors show up on a hot Saturday afternoon  to help out in the garden. Bettie and Donald have lived in Bath County all their lives.  Donald brought his bush-hog over to clear out the weeds in our garden area that did not get planted this year. (The space for gardening here is huge.) We started small and have been eating continuously from the garden all summer. But I’m tired! And ready to rest! Having a machine to weed feels so unusual and  right at this time!

I got such a kick out of these two! Bettie riding in the bucket, all the way from their home, which means across a busy road with midnight their 11 year old dog in her lap. Bettie was born and raised here and rarely leaves the countryside. Oh how I long for time to record stories about these sweet native people stretched out across Bath County. I could go door to door with a recorder and camera. Their stories are endless. It doesn’t get much sweeter than this in the country!

The picture of the pickup truck appears to show the electric pole coming right through the roof of the pickup. My first thought was “What new mobile electric fencing did they come up with now?!?” 🙂
