Fun at Polyface…

Boy, this summer has been busy! It’s hard to believe it’s already mid-August. The last batch of broilers are in the brooder, turkey season has begun, and the mornings are cool and crisp (for now). It can be easy to get caught up in all that’s happening around the farm, but lately I’ve been reminiscing on my “remember back when” memories of Polyface. I know I haven’t been here that long, but there are lots of fun memories, and more importantly, friendships that will last a lifetime that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

On my computer’s iPhoto, there’s an album called “Fun @ Polyface, Inc.” Whenever I take pictures that aren’t related to work, I put them there and now I’ve compiled quite a little collection of moments captured in photos. Here are a few of my favorites!

Here’s a picture of my sweet roommate & friend Brie and I the first week as interns!

Celebrating the 4th of July at the “Mansion”

My first Christmas at Polyface. Brie and I strung up Christmas lights to make it feel more like home. (* the lights are still glowing in our house!)

I love how the Salatins became family to us. Here we are picking out Joel & Teresa’s Christmas tree. (Left – Right: me, Eric, Brie, Ben, & Ethan)

Brie and I celebrated Valentine’s Day on our own…. so we made cute (messy) s’mores. So fun!

Of course, Split Banana has to make it into the favorites list. It’s the best ice cream place in town.

Maybe our favorite memory as a group last year was Formal Day. We went to thrift stores and bought the best-cheesiest-cheapest-cute/ugly clothes we could and surprised the Salatins on the final butchering day. We worked the whole day in our “formal” clothes!

It’s a blessing to live and work here. I remember visiting farms in the Valley with my father when I was a kid, and have always loved it here. The community, experiences, and relationships that have been made are priceless.

That formal day is one of the funniest things interns have ever done. 😀 I have to ask…who’s idea was it first?

So whose house is “The Mansion”?
